Project 52: How It Starts
Project 52 is something near and dear to my heart. It’s meant to inspire AND reward the creators in our community. I’ve long strived to go out each week with a different random assignment and create a picture based on that assignment. Why you ask? Because it’s challenging. It is made to make you think outside the box, and gets you out taking pictures. No one ever got worse at photography by taking pictures.
This is the year I finally succeed because this is the year I take all of you with me!
This series of 12 contests will each run for a month. Each contest will have a different theme for every week of the month. For example October’s theme could be:
Oct 8th - Things that are red
Oct 15th - Things that are blue
Oct 22nd - Things that are yellow
Oct 29th - Things that are orange
However you won’t know what the theme is until Saturday. So I’ll post the theme on Saturday October 1st. You’ll have until Friday evening to post your entry. You post your entry on Twitter, Facebook and/or Instagram. You can post the same picture or different pictures, thats up to you. However you will only get credit for one post in each channel.
Again for example October 8th the challenge may be something red. You would have to tag the studio and use the hashtags #OpelikaAF #Week1, #Red
While you can say anything else you want in the post your entry only counts if you tag the studio and you use the hashtags we posted. You will get 1 point for a post on Twitter, one for a post on Facebook and one for a post on Instagram IF we determine your post is in the spirit of the weekly theme. For example a picture of a brown log isn’t a picture of something red, so we wouldn’t award you a point. You get an additional point if I like your post. Every week we’ll pick the one picture that best embodies the idea of the goal and that person gets 2 points. And every picture shot in the studio gets an additional 2 points. And lastly you get an additional 2 points at the end of the month of you have entered every week of the month.
Whoever has the most points at the end of the month wins the prize. All the prizes are related to photography but they are all pretty sizable, for example October’s prize is a $200 gift certificate to Cameragraphics, where you can finally get that piece of kit you’ve been dreaming off. November’s prize is going to be a $500 credit for studio time. It’s always something in that theme.
Other rules:
Only studio members can win. So go here to get your absolutely free membership.
All prizes must be picked up in person at the studio. If you don’t live near here I don’t know that you will want to compete but you are welcome to.
Prizes are not transferable or saleable.
Your entries should be shot the week of the contest. Entering work shot prior to that week will disqualify you from future OAF contests and may result in termination of your membership.
Prizes will only be awarded if there are at least 10 different nonemployees entered in the contest.
See you on Oct 1st!
