Week Thirteen: Golden Spiral

The goal of Project 52 is for you to approach photography with joy, to learn to look at things a little differently. December is all about the basic rules of photography.

This used to be a contest where we had a monthly prize associated but we weren’t getting enough entries to give the prize away. We’ll go back to that if people start participating but I think going forward we’ll just share the assignments so people use them to improve their photography skills

I want the theme for December to be basics. The simple rules of photography redone. Let’s focus ourselves on the idea that size equals power in this weeks images.

An example of the golden spiral

A perfect example of using the spiral to lead your viewer through the image.

So there is a concept of using a spiral to lead the viewers eye through an image. The example up top shows the spiral overlaid on a rose to lead you to its center. The staircase picture uses the spiral stairs to lead you to the sculpture at its center. If I have to be honest I’ve never tried framing a picture to use the spiral so this will be a first for me, probably for you guys too.

Don’t forget to tag the studio (@opelikaartfactory) and to use this weeks hashtags: #OpelikaAF #OAFProject52 and #Week13GoldenSpiral.

Recapping the rules:

  • Only studio members can win. So get your absolutely free membership.

  • Only one entry per member, per week will be scored

  • This is four week in a competition that will run all of November, the prize will not be awarded until December. Entries for this week must be submitted by 8 AM November 11th

  • All prizes must be picked up in person at the studio. If you don’t live near here I don’t know that you will want to compete but you are welcome to.

  • Prizes are not transferable or saleable.

  • Your entries should be shot the week of the contest. Entering work shot prior to that week will disqualify you from future OAF contests and may result in termination of your membership.

  • This prize will only be awarded if there are at least 10 different nonemployees entered in the contest this month.

Thats it, see you out there.
